OUR
NGO PARTNERS
Creating social value
together with companies

The focus of our collaboration with non-profit organizations is always on the vocational empowerment of disadvantaged youth and young adults: This ranges from language courses for refugees, job application and career preparation for young people to accompanying people with disabilities as they (re)enter the labor market. Here you will find an excerpt from our NGO partners with whom we work worldwide.

the challenge

How can rising youth unemployment be countered?
Digitalization and the growing automation of the working environment present younger generations with completely different challenges than their parents experienced. Youth unemployment has already reached an all-time high in many parts of the world.
Junior Achievement aims to equip young people with the right skills for the ever-changing working environment, so that they can perform confidently in an achievement-focused society. Volunteer Vision's online mentoring platform presented an opportunity to add a digital, accessible and effective aspect to Junior Achievement's program portfolio.

OUR SOLUTION

From job application training to leadership skills
Together with their mentors, the Junior Achievement mentees work on the topics that are currently on their minds: Younger participants talk about job application training and how to write a successful CV, while older participants discuss leadership skills and building a professional network with their mentor. Due to Junior Achievement’s international orientation and the close cooperation with companies, schools and other organizations, the mentees receive the best possible support in starting their careers.

THE challenge

How can refugees use their talents for a new professional start?
Many refugees supported by Talent Beyond Boundaries are very well educated - before they fled they worked as doctors, engineers or IT consultants. They have sought-after qualifications and valuable skills, but cannot use them profitably due to their precarious situation in a foreign country. Talent Beyond Boundaries supports these people in using their skills for a new start abroad. Talent Beyond Boundaries enables refugees to leave their country safely and legally so that they can resume their careers in a new country. In order to sufficiently prepare highly qualified refugees for international employment, a user-friendly solution was needed that connects participants with mentors from abroad regardless of location.

OUR SOLUTION

Digital job preparation for international employment
Refugees registered with Talent Beyond Boundaries can use our our job preparation online mentoring content for free. We connect mentees with dedicated mentors from companies who can help with any questions regarding application processes. What should be included in a CV? What are the special features of digital applications and interviews? How can you do targeted and helpful networking? This and more will be clarified in the joint sessions. By working with various governments, companies and other NGOs, Talent Beyond Boundaries helps refugees find legal employment in another country, with a focus on Canada and Australia.

THE impact

Online mentoring has been proven to promote positive youth development and effectively combat youth unemployment.

of mentees have managed
to write a professional CV.

77%

of mentees rate themselves as more self-confident after their mentorship.

71%

Volunteering
"Every time my team refers a cohort of refugee professionals to Volunteer Vision, I know that they will be provided with a truly enriching experience and service. Refugees are often marginalized from the labor market, and providing them with the opportunity to engage 1-1 with professional mentors to receive the tools and confidence to put their best foot forward has proven invaluable. The dozens of refugees we have referred to Volunteer Vision have gone on to receive employment offers from companies around the world. It is a brilliant and unparalleled initiative, and we are so grateful for our partnership."

sparrow schools

With the help of Sparrow Schools, young, disadvantaged South Africans can acquire the necessary theoretical and practical knowledge to successfully enter professional life. Volunteer Vision supports the NGO with tailor-made online mentoring modules.

ABOUT

Sparrow
Schools

Children who cannot keep up in mainstream schools hardly have a chance in South Africa. The NGO Sparrow Schools provides access to education for pupils with learning difficulties and disabilities.
Head office:

Johannesburg, South Africa

THE challenge

How can pupils with (learning) disabilities be prepared for their first job?
The Sparrow Schools are aimed at young, disadvantaged South Africans and provide them with a high-quality education in theory and practice. In particular, pupils with (learning) disabilities benefit from this education - because the model of special schools known in Germany and other countries does not exist in South Africa. Without the support of the Sparrow Schools, pupils with special needs would hardly have a chance to develop professional and technical skills to support themselves later on. In order to sufficiently prepare students of the Sparrow Schools for entering their careers, a targeted online mentoring program is required: volunteer mentors help their protégés with all questions regarding the application process.

OUR SOLUTION

Application training as a digital format
With the help of our Live Mentoring modules, participants of the Sparrow Schools can be digitally accompanied in their career preparation. Highly motivated mentors, such as Deutsche Bank employees, help their young mentees to compile their application documents and train them for job interviews. Sparrow Schools' close cooperation with various companies in South Africa lays the foundation for mentees to later lead a financially independent and self-determined life.

"I've had a really great experience with my mentor - with him, the mentoring sessions are always enjoyable and entertaining. Even though I've been busy lately with my exam preparation, I've always looked forward to our next session. I learned a lot about writing a resume, and also how to answer interview questions professionally - even though I struggled with some questions at first."
